Frequently asked questions

Which intolerances does CI 42090 affect?

CI 42090 is notable for Histamine.

Does CI 42090 contain Histamine?

CI 42090 contains moderate levels of Histamine. Synthetic colours — tartrazine (E102) is the textbook case — act as histamine liberators, not sources. They are standard exclusions in the pseudoallergen-free diet. Same honest caveat as benzoates: double-blind challenge confirms far fewer reactions than open observation suggests, and tartrazine in particular has been re-tested repeatedly with modest results. Several of these also carry the EU warning 'may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children'. Sources: Zuberbier et al., EAACI/GA2LEN urticaria guideline; EFSA re-evaluations of food colours (2009-2016); Reg. (EC) 1333/2008 Annex V. Amounts vary by brand and recipe, so always check the label of the exact product.
