- Histamine (+liberators / DAO inhibitors)None
Carboxymethylcellulose (E466) has no histamine route — no histamine in it, none released, no effect on DAO — so nothing on this axis reaches it. It has been fed to people in a controlled trial for this question: sixteen healthy adults, eleven days, 15 grams a day against an identical emulsifier-free diet. Those eating it reported modestly more abdominal discomfort after meals, and their gut microbiota lost diversity while faecal short-chain fatty acids fell. Sixteen people at a dose far above ordinary intake is a small, strong signal about a different mechanism — not this axis.
